FAQ

Q1 : What is the right age to start taking piano lessons?

A : We recommend to start at age four and up. Each student is different and sometimes a starting age of six- or seven years of age result in a better learning curve and less pressure for the student. However, if your child is ready, engaged, and motivated earlier, we encourage them to get started at an earlier age.

If your child shows interest in Music earlier age than 4, we suggest to begin with the music singing class as well as Darcloze studies to  get the child used to listening to music and rhythm.

Q2 : How long should the lesson to be?

A : Depending on the level of concentration and age, we recommend a starting time of 30 minutes per lesson to then reevaluate moving forward up to 90 minutes.

Q3 : How many times per week should a lesson be?

A : Two times per week is ideal for young age. This shows the by far highest improvement curve among all students and leads the child to a solid practicing routine. Should the two time per week schedule not be possible, our once a week lesson schedule will be of course sufficient as well.

In addition to the regular weekly lessons, we offer daily intense lesson during the summer- and winter holidays.

Q4 : Do students need to practice at home?

A : Absolutely yes. Other than other hobby activities, piano lessons require home practicing in order to keep improving and keep enjoying playing the instrument in the long term.

Q5 : How much should students practice at home?

A : We will hand out weekly homework and guide, explain and teach each student and the parents how to approach and practice this homework in detail at home. Any student’s improvement on the instruments drastically depends on the focus and time put in at home in the practice room.

We understand that this varies depending on each student’s personal activity schedule but recommend to gradually slightly push the students comfort zone.

Q6 : What certificate program do you offer?

A : The ABRSM Exams and a variety of well recognized national- and International Competitions

Q7 : How is the lesson structured? What text books and literature is used?

A : We start with basic scales, reading of music notation and practicing to play musical pieces. A student keeps between one to three books and will be prepared extra print outs and additional work sheets if needed or requested.

Q8 : Can a student still get piano lessons without having a piano at home?

A : Having an acoustic piano(Upright pianos or Grand pianos) is highly recommended to learn the creation of tone and color of the instrument that can not be taught on any electronic instrument.

If the organization of an acoustic piano is not possible, please speak to Yuko for recommendations on a electronic substitute
